Tami
Engineer

What college/university did you attend? What was your major and when did you graduate?
Auburn University. Aerospace Engineering. May 2002.

Why did you accept the position at Northrop Grumman?
Northrop Grumman is a strong defense contractor offering engineers a multitude of different opportunities. With all the diverse sectors provided, there is something for everyone. Graduating post 9-11 and after the Columbia disaster, it wasn’t a promising environment for aerospace jobs, so I chose to be part of a defense contractor. It provides me with a sense of security and an optimistic outlook for my career.

What does Northrop Grumman offer that competitors don’t?
Northrop Grumman has a wide variety of jobs and sectors, but it also provides the opportunity to work with great people. From customers to contractors to the craft, I work with a broad range of people and backgrounds. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience different perspectives on the project I am working on. I am also able to meet people who are great resources for my career development, both at the shipyard and around the country.

Tell us a little about what you do (i.e. what projects you work on, etc.).
Currently I am working on DD(X) Vulnerability. When I started on this project, I temporarily relocated to Washington, D.C. working off-site at Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock (NSWC/CD) where I began learning a new computer simulation program. Presently, I model the structures of DD(X), process threat analysis, assist in the assessment the vulnerable areas of the ship, and act as a liaison between Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (the design agent) and subcontractors.
