Northrop Grumman Xinetics is a manufacturer of multi-layer, electro-ceramic actuators, PMN activated deformable mirrors, nanopositioners, PC-controlled drivers and amplifiers, large, lightweight, high-performance silicon carbide optics and structures used in imaging, directed energy, and laser communication applications. Xinetics was founded in 1993 to preserve critical defense-related active material technologies and to develop them into commercial precision motion-control products. In 2007, Xinetics was acquired by Northrop Grumman. The Company is devoted to continued development of both existing and new technologies that can expand and improve its product line. Responsibilities include: Managing ceramic manufacturing, machining, and sputtering products for optical systems for ceramics manufacturing of large SiC optical and structural components, film coating of deformable mirrors for space optics utilizing large magnetron sputtering chamber, and various high precision machining operations that include tooling, molds, cores, fixtures, and optical components; Participating as member of the senior staff, including developing long-range business strategies; Managing a technical staff of materials engineers, machinists, and physicists working with new technologies for U.S. government and space technology business initiatives; Planning and executing budgets (including capital equipment expenditures) and manufacturing schedules; Managing utilization and scheduling of equipment, facilities and personnel to obtain maximum efficiency and meet performance and delivery objectives; Participating in reliability program definition, process and system improvements in manufacturing methods/practices to drive improvement; Communicating effectively, both in verbal and written form, critical technical information, project and equipment specifications, and cost ramifications; Continually evaluating and refining the effectiveness of product development processes; Ensuring manufacturing staff is trained in plant safety requirements; Monitoring performance and ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Ceramics Engineering or other technical discipline, however, an advanced degree in a technical discipline is preferred; 10-15+ years experience with a minimum of 3 years managing a technical staff in a manufacturing environment involving ceramics (silicon carbide and optics ideal); Understanding of precise machining and experience working with space programs and flight hardware a must; Demonstrated success in manufacturing environment, directing technical groups, managing schedules, equipment and programs; Knowledge and experience with thin coatings, sputtering processes, and materials development at the nano-level; Strength in resource management; Energetic and clear communicator with initiative and the ability to lead and be part of a cohesive team; Ability to demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills for long-term growth of the technical organization.
