Description:
The Business Data Management (BDM) organization in Raleigh NC has the responsibility to perform production database support services from a centralized point of origin. A significant portion of this service will include support for the client's database environment. In order to ensure adequate expertise and skill levels for the resolution of difficult and complex problems, as well as, the impact assessment of new release versions of the database software, specialized skills are required to ensure that such problems and issues are quickly and efficiently resolved. This is a 24X7X365 environment and requires the ability to work overtime and night/weekend shift coverage, on occasion to meet project schedules, or as scheduled. Roles and Responsibilities: Support the Oracle Applications E-Business Suites environment. Responsible for system administration activities such as creating user accounts, concurrent executables/ programs, creating functions/menus and responsibilities. Responsible for cloning and patching the E-Business environment utilizing tools such as rapid clone, adadmin, adctrl and adpatch. Responsible for developing a plan to upgrade the existing NCMS production environment from 11.5.9 to 11.5.10. Additional responsibilities are to provide remote production database management and administration services for the ORACLE relational database management system in support of distributed business applications. This includes performing oracle installations, database upgrades/migrations, management of space, backup, recovery and performance tuning. The functions of this position centers around the development, testing, support, and operation of the mainframe, server, and data storage components and facilities that comprise a large, multi-platform technology infrastructure. Job duties are performed in a collaborative, help desk environment. This position is responsible for providing technical leadership for the availability, performance, and functionality of key components and systems. Failure in any of these areas could result in significant business disruption and/or the inability of the business to meet its goals. Recommendations made by persons in this position may result in expenditures accounting for hundreds of thousands of dollars. This position typically requires working overtime to meet tight deadlines, working during off-hours to avoid disruptions or to provide 24-hour coverage, and providing on-call support. Installs, tests, and implements complex system-level changes within the technology infrastructure. Operates, maintains, and provides customer support and consultation for a wide variety of complex technology components and systems. Provides leadership in establishing operational processes for delivering world-class technology platforms. Analyzes and develops innovative resolutions for complex problems involving availability and/or performance at the system level. Works with vendors to resolve problems. Coordinates the implementation of solutions. Provides technical leadership for capacity and performance analyses and develops and implements recommendations. Interacts with customers and provides leadership in developing and recommending innovative solutions to business problems of high complexity, including preparation of economic models, cost-benefit analyses and project budgets for technology acquisition. Develops and maintains specialized knowledge of current and emerging technologies. Provides training to less experienced team members of the IS department. Minimum Qualifications: A four-year degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. An equivalent combination of education or experience in computer or telecommunications architectures, systems analysis, and management of information technology may be substituted. A minimum of seven (7) years total IT experience. At least three (3) of the past five (5) years experience in a large (>100GB ) production DBA environment. This position requires the ability to obtain a Postal Sensitive clearance. This position requires specialized knowledge and skills in the architectures, technologies, and tools outlined below as illustrated by the ability to independently and quickly recognize, diagnose and resolve complex problems, and the ability to evaluate emerging technologies: Database Management - i.e., Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and associated components, such as gateways and replication services. Storage Subsystems - i.e., hardware, software, backup and recovery Systems Management - i.e., remote operations, software distribution, configuration management Security - i.e., hardware, software, and data Performance engineering - i.e., measurement and modeling methods and tools Candidates must also be familiar with the following architectures and be able to navigate and function within them: Server Platforms - i.e., server operating systems and hardware platforms Workstation Platforms - i.e., client operating systems and hardware platforms Local Area Networks - i.e., network operating systems, LAN protocols, LAN management Data Communications - i.e., wide-area networking protocols, software, equipment, facilities, network management platforms Messaging - i.e., Email, groupware, Internet Security Clearance Required.
