Program Management
Program management is a broad and challenging field at Northrop Grumman. Program management personnel are the primary interface with the customer on a given contractual effort, and are responsible for directing all phases of programs from inception through completion, including overall cost, schedule, and technical performance of programs/projects or sub-elements of major programs/projects.
Program managers must secure, plan, and coordinate the array of people, technical and financial resources needed to satisfy commitments to customers. Program management personnel lead customer program reviews, and identify program problems and obtain solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications. Program management personnel may also support proposal efforts and customer negotiations regarding program execution, follow-on activity, or new business.
Typical qualifications that may be necessary to secure employment in program management include:
- Bachelor's degree
- Advanced degree in engineering, sciences, business administration or related field is preferred, as is certification in program/project management
- Demonstrated capabilities to plan, organize, report, coordinate, control, identify/mitigate risk, and lead all phases of complex programs/projects from inception through completion are required
- Excellent communication skills and experience with commercial/proprietary project planning and scheduling tools are needed
- Experience in project management, business development, and/or Government/military activities is desirable
